1.4104 is a rust- and acid-resistant martensitic chromium steel with added sulfur, which improves its machinability. However, despite the high chromium content, the corrosion resistance is reduced due to the sulfur.
Application areas
The main application of this material are in areas that cause pitting or crevice corrosion. In addition, due to its excellent machinability, the steel grade 1.4104 is used in the automotive industry, hydraulics and in the water and steam sector.
This stainless steel is also used in the manufacture of screws, axes, spindles and nuts and fittings.
